Advance Painting

For those who have taken previous Durham Art School courses or equivalent background and want to refine technique & take art to the next level. This class will include demos. Work from still lifes, and flowers when available, in your choice of acrylic, oil (no solvents) watercolour or pastel. Work on a new painting each week.  Continue to practice and refine.

Landscape Bootcamp

Build sketching strength, painting fitness and stretch your style in this rigorous three day painting workshop. This will be hard but rewarding work. All mediums welcome.  Class will meet at The Colour Jar to review materials, techniques and approaches. After the break we will meet at predetermined locations to paint. All mediums welcome.

Fashion illustration

A three part series focusing on techniques of fashion illustration. Fashion drawing is a valuable skill for designers and sewers who want to make accurate and elegant sketches to present their ideas and concepts. Also useful for anyone who wants to explore and develop a stylized way to draw people. No prior drawing skills required.
 Classes will be at the elegant Garafraxa Cafe.

Drawing is the basis of all visual arts.  Improve drawing skills and review classic techniques.  Through a series of exercises learn to draw what you see by training your eye to observe. No tricks. A must for painters who want to paint from life. Work in pencil, charcoal and Conte.

Instructor

Rhonda AbaramsRhonda D. Abrams paints on location and from life. For Abrams, painting and sketching is an act of observing life, nature and the moment of time.

The media works of R. D. Abrams are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the National Gallery of Canada. Her art has been exhibited around the world in 10 solo and 80 group shows and has won Canada Council, Ontario Art Council,and Toronto Arts Council awards.

R.D. Abrams teaches Visual Studies, Concepts and Theories, and Fashion Drawing at Ryerson University. She founded Ryerson’s Digital Art Certificate in 2015. 

Abrams studied fine art at the University of Ottawa  (BA honours),York University (MFA),and at the Banff Cenre of Fine Arts.
